Michael Jackson and The Jackson 5

May 30th 2006 12:08
Michael Jackson began his musical career as a singer and bongo player at the tender age of five. Little did anyone know that he would become one of the most well-known singers in pop-music history.

The Jackson 5 (comprised of brothers Jermaine, Tito, Jackie, Marlon and Michael) recorded their first single “Big Boy”, a funky love song with a killer bass line, when Michael was only nine. Until this point, The Jackson 5 had been performing in venues as diverse as seedy strip joints, smokey Chicago nightclubs and talent shows. It was after their exposure on vinyl The Jackson 5 really began. Motown signed the young boys, and Berry Gordy pledged he would make them “... the biggest thing in the world”.

With their first single ”I Want You Back”, Berry Gordy’s words came true. This song was released in November 1969, sold 2 million copies in 6 weeks and went straight to number one on the US Charts. “ABC” followed in March 1970, selling 2 million copies in 3 weeks and also reaching number one. Soon after, “The Love You Save” was released, and it too went straight to number one. The young boys from Gary, Indiana, seemed destined for greatness.

might i add.. he's amazing live.
i'm one of the lucky few who saw him in 1996 for his History tour at the SCG, my first ever 'real' concert.
he's got a new album due out next year, the Prince of Bahrain is putting his $$$ behind it. MJ is loved the world over - musically of course, it's a shame that people stopped listening just because of something he may/may not have done. To me.. it doesn't change the fact that he's an incredible musician and I'll still buy his albums, go to his concerts etc.

Agreed! It is a huge shame that people have stopped listening to his music because of what he's been accused of doing. Critics said his last album, Invincible, was a huge let-down but I disagree - there were some great tunes in that album.

I look forward to his new album and I hope people give him a fair go.

Charles.

But the question everyone wants to know? Is he still black where it counts?
