The Mystical Qualities of Music
May 30th 2008 17:30
I was driving in my car yesterday, and I started to realize that though my MP3 player was on shuffle, I was skipping any songs that were slow and mellow. It made my brain start to think and I started to realize how often music is a reflection of our mood.
Think about it. You are getting ready for a road trip with a bunch of friends, you get in the car and it's time to pick your opening anthem to set the road trip off right. Do you pick Clay Aiken? Heck no! You look for something with a beat, something fast, or the ever classic "Danger Zone" from Top Gun.
Music not only is a reflection of our mood, but it also can actually determine our mood. For example right now I am sitting in front of a large stone fireplace in a coffee shop. Old School Limp Biskit or Corn is just not going to be right for me. However, a little Diane Krall, or Norah Jones, or even some light Indie is going to set me straight into the right mood.
Another example. Your pissed off at the world. Do you put in Celine Dion? Well, if you truly are a psychopath...maybe. This is where only some old school Creed or anything with some driving distorted guitar will do.
What type of music drives you in different moods? I'm truly curious. Leave some comments.
