The Veronicas

June 27th 2006 08:27
With the release of another great new single by The Veronicas, I’m reminded of how important individuality is. There are so many artists out there that remind me of another, either of a modern (still making records) or classic (not making records but generally still played on the radio) artist. When I flicked on the radio the other day, a song that I didn’t know was playing. However within about 2 bars, I was sure I knew the artist. The Veronicas.

The song, I found out after googling "The Veronicas & single", was Revolution. I’ve now heard the song about 12 times, and I love it. It retains the same sound as their other hits, 4Ever, When It All Falls Apart and Everything I’m Not. Yet it is not just a tangent to those songs. Of course, the girls from Brisbane found a sound that they liked and that was a little original, so they have every right to stick to it. What I really enjoy and admire is that though their 4 singles are quite similar in style, (apart from being recognisable as by the duo), this is actually a good thing.

The gorgeous sisters from Melbourne

Revolution retains the same great up-tempo beat as the other 3 singles. And though Everything I’m Not and When It All Falls Apart are more “down” songs, they still have a quick and energetic beat. This is unusual, but works brilliantly for the duo because of the rarity-factor. The music itself is also good - less synthesised and more rock-influenced than the average pop song.

The Veronicas seem to have blended pop, rock, punk and maybe even metal (the beats have that real head-banging feel to them) into an original sound accessible to all music lovers. And by doing this, they have a real chance of being listened to in not just five years from now, but twenty or thirty years time too.

They also have a great site.

Dude, if you listen carefully to "Everything I am not" you should be able to detect that the song structure and sequence and even storyline are ver similar to Kelly Clarkson's "Since you've been gone" or "Behind these hazel eyes".

Bla bla bla, it is over between us and explanation of why is it over between us, then a catchy chorus (all done in the rock style which they should both be given credit for), then that pause before the chorus is played one last time. It's like Jean Claud van Damme's movies, they are all the same style and the storyline follows the same trend. You can see that they copied the style but at least they have good voices, enforce rock and there are much worse lyrics than theirs.

I love the Veronicas, although I think they're from Brisbane not Melbourne.

Ah, thank you, I don't know what world I was in when I typed Melbourne, I'll fix that right away.

Cheers.

The veronicas are great singers. whats amazing though is that they are huge in austrailia and all, but the States heard their single 4ever and fell in love with them. Now they are big everywhere. thats goes to show how wonderful they are. I <3 them
